Nelspruit is the relatively small capital city of Mpumalanga (only since 1994) and is situated on the main East/West route between Gauteng and Maputo, Mozambique. Nelspruit, being the centre point between Zimbabwe and Natal.

Nelspruit is a beautiful, fast growing metropolitan city that dates back to 1892. The Nel brothers built a station on the Crocodile River valley and so city was named Nelspruit - Nels stream. The city attracts many traders and farmers because of the natural richness of the soil, adequate water and a level valley floor. Today less than a quarter of a million people live in Nelspruit. It is an area you want to have a vehicle to get a good view. Choose one of JetSet 2010's luxury cars on rental.

The Nelspruit district has the potential to become the breadbasket of Sub-Saharan Africa, providing raw and processed foodstuffs as well as paper and wood to a developing continent. The town hall building also attracts tourists as the sundial on the island is in the shape of a wagon wheel. The streets of Nelspruit are lined with jacaranda and flamboyant trees and impeccably tended suburban gardens abound, flaunting flowering subtropical plants and shrubs.

Tourists travelling to Nelspruit can enjoy white-water rafting, cave climbing and hot air ballooning. Nelspruit also offers the opportunity for travellers to go gold prospecting. Nelspruit has a train station as well as Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport. The winters in Nelspruit are mild with temperatures between 22° and 25°. In the summer, temperatures can hit 30 degrees. Rainy season is from October to March.

20 minutes outside Nelspruit one will find the Sudwala caves, a place of legend. Many stone artefacts indicate that the caves have been used for shelter and refuge since the dawn of mankind. It is rumoured that the missing Kruger millions, gold bullion, could be hidden in the caves.

Activities and places to see in Nelspruit include: Chimpanzee Eden Haven is a home to chimpanzees that have been misplaced from their natural habitat, Lowveld Botanical Garden, Mpumalanga's most popular tourist attractions.
